We at CarDekho, would opine that it is quite disappointing that this facelifted Volkswagen Vento lacks updates to its exteriors, interiors and technical details as well. There is no doubt that with new offerings and improvements, this automaker is continuously putting efforts to raise the standards in the market. But just adding a few new attributes may not impress many buyers keeping in view, the upcoming Auto Expo and considering the new aspects with which all other manufacturers are coming with. However, if the price and performance parameters are prioritized, it may still remain a preferred choice of a certain section of customers. %
Volkswagen Vento Look
The latest Volkswagen Vento comes with subtle changes. The sedan features a new bonnet with more prominent creases that increases its muscular appeal. The front fascia comprises of a larger grille now along with extra dash of chrome that makes it resemble elder sibling VW Jetta. The top of the line variant is now equipped with all-LED headlights with auto-levelling functionality. Also new is the front bumper with extra chrome strips, revised air dam and a pair of new fog lamps replacing the rounded ones in the earlier model. The fog lamps also incorporate cornering lights while the turn indicators on the ORVM gets LED treatment.
Coming to the sides, the door handles are now draped in chrome for lending richer look to the car. The sporty quotient has also been uplifted with the inclusion of a new pair of alloy wheels. At the rear, the older version of the car can be differentiated from revamped tail lights, new bumper with chrome as well as chrome lining on the boot. The chrome treatment continues on the exhaust tip as well. The recently launched Sport variant gets a host of changes to stand out from other variants. It features carbon-fibre finished ORVMs, glossy black roof, Sport badge on the front fender, glossy black rear spoiler and new side foils.
Overall, the changes to the exteriors are minor but enough to make the Vento a more desirable car.
Volkswagen Vento Comfort
Step inside and you are welcomed with one of the finest cabins in the class. The use of materials and the craftsmanship is top notch. The cabin is adorned in either Walnut Desert Beige colour theme in the top end model or TitanSchwarz black in lower trims, but the former looks more premium. Further, the cabin features smart flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted controls for audio as well as cruise which is a new addition to the car. The front passenger seat can be adjusted from the back while comfort at the rear continues to be reasonable with an ample amount of headroom and knee room.
The cabin does look a bit jovial but the changes are not really drastic. The carmaker besides adding cruise control has included features such as cooled glove box, electrically foldable ORVM and also dead pedal for relaxing the left foot. The instrument panel is the same typical Volkswagen’s multi-functional display that shows a wealth of information including travelling time, digital speed, distance travelled, speed warning, average speed, distance till empty, fuel-efficiency, outside temperature, service interval, coolant temperature and clock.
Another significant and much-needed change comes in the form of a touchscreen infotainment unit powered by Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. The system also let your smartphone connect to the infotainment through Bluetooth which allows phone sync, view SMS and controlling functions through voice commands. The passenger can also connect their iPods along with the options of USB, Aux-In and SD-Card support. The same infotainment also relays feeds from the rear parking camera that makes you place your car in the right spot without any trouble.
Other interesting bits in the car include auto-dimming IRVM, automatic rain sensing wipers, ‘Climatronic’ automatic air-conditioning with rear AC vent, height adjustable driver’s seat, and key remote with trunk unlock functionality. However, looking at the competition Vento still misses on features like push-engine start/stop button and sunroof. To know more information on Volkswagen Vento visit Oprst
Volkswagen Vento Transmission
According to VW, the new Volkswagen Vento has a 7% more efficiency in fuel consumption, making it more competitive. We drove the Diesel – TDI with the 7-speed DSG (Auto) and the car again impressed us as it retains the same virtues of being a responsive and spirited performer. The gearbox though, has a certain initial lag. Also, what was noticed was that on releasing the brakes (in Drive mode), the car leaps ahead suddenly (forward or reverse) and one needs to be careful, especially in bumper to bumper driving situations.
The suspension setup remains the same, offering a pliant ride and good overall composure, which is certainly a highlight of the Volkswagen Vento. The diesel engine and the petrol (TSI) engines are highly efficient on the Vento. These aren’t just powerful but also return a better efficiency too. On the other hand, the 1.6-litre petrol engine isn’t the most powerful offering and is the least efficient of the lot. But then, this engine is the most affordable too.
Volkswagen Vento Driving
As for the braking, a robust set of ventilated disc brakes are fitted to its front wheels and the rear ones get sturdy drum brakes. Anti lock braking mechanism is also offered that not only boosts this mechanism but also prevents the vehicle from skidding. Meanwhile, the McPherson strut on front axle and semi-independent trailing arm on the rear one makes your journey in this sedan quite comfortable. This suspension system ensures the ride is smooth no matter how the road conditions are. On the other hand, with a speed sensing electronic power steering column, you can easily take turns besides having good control at both low and high speeds.
Volkswagen Vento Safety
The overall breaking of the car is top notch and confidence inspiring. The amount of braking you want during different driving conditions can be easily controlled. In terms of safety, the car is loaded with standard safety equipment including dual front airbags and ABS. Further, the electronic stabilization programme (ESP) ensures firm control on heavy braking and slippery roads.Other safety aspects in the car include front fog lamps with static cornering lights, reverse parking camera with sensors, rear fog lamps, hill hold control and engine immobilizer with floating code.
